Brian McShea took his girlfriend, Stephanie Raynor, to the site where their house once stood in Altadena, California, last Friday (24) to see if they could recover some of the items lost in the rubble.

According to Los Angeles’ ABC 7 channel, it was at this moment that McShea decided to try and find the ring he had bought to propose to Raynor.

“I was thinking, ‘Well, maybe the stone could survive, and maybe we’ll find the little stone.’ I thought the ring was going to disintegrate completely. I really didn’t have much hope,” he told the local news outlet.

Fortunately, he found the ring partially melted, but the small diamond had survived. He was so happy that he decided to propose to Raynor right there.

“And I was on my knees and thought, ‘Hey, do you want to marry me?’ And I’m in full PPE, with a zipper, white hood, and everything. And I’m crying.”

The couple doesn’t have a wedding date yet, but they said they want to stay in the area and rebuild their home. “We’re really hoping […] that we can return because this community is very special,” McShea added.
